Episode 271 - Gretsch G6134 '55 White Penguin

Gretsch originally made the hollowbody White Falcon as eye candy for the 1954 NAMM convention. When the response proved promising, they decided to put it into production. Perhaps to hedge their bets, or as an afterthought, the company released a solidbody version to go with it - the White Penguin. Gretsch might not have thought much of the endeavor, as the Penguin never appeared in any catalog, and didn’t even hit the price lists until 1959. Even today, there is healthy speculation about how many of these instruments were ever made, much less how many still exist. Luckily for us, recreations and reissues are available, like this 2018 G6134 '55 White Penguin. Thanks!

Beverages!

Podcasting is thirsty work; it’s crucial that everyone involved stay hydrated. The following fine beverages contributed to the success of this episode: Ed went hard at the kombucha. He might have broken himself on it. John enjoyed a sparkly coca-cola beverage.
