Episode 272 - Vox Tornado
Most of us are familiar with Vox amps. One way or another we’ve all heard the room-destroying sounds of an AC-30 turned all the way up. And what about those solidbody guitars that started appearing in the 1960s? There was the teardrop guitar favored by Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones. The pentagonal Phantom was also a hit with the in-crowd. When Gibson’s ES-175 began showing up on stages in ever-increasing numbers, the race was on to create something similar. Vox (eventually) contracted with Italian manufacturer Eko, who assumed the primary duty of making semi-hollowbody guitars for them. We’ve got a 1967 Tornado and we are pleasantly surprised. Enjoy!
