Episode 161 - The National Studio 66 with Kemble Walters of Aeges

In the 1960s, the Valco company tried its hand at making guitars out of fiberglas. Except the name “fiberglas” was patented. So, they opted for the more fanciful “Res-O-Glas” moniker to describe this newfangled way of constructing a modern instrument. The results were pretty good, and to this day, hipsters the world over covet these singular guitars. The great thing about Res-O-Glas, like its cousin Fiberglas, was its ability to be molded to any shape, and take on any color. And so it was that Valco produced reds, yellows, blues and whites. And….skin?

Our special guest this week is Kemble Walters of the band Aeges. Their new single Colors is all over the place now. You should listen to it. Kemble graciously shares some of his music stories with us, and explains how/why he keeps taking lemons from the tree next door….

Of course, beverages, pedals and misc references to seemingly unrelated things come standard with every episode. Enjoy!

Beverages!

Podcasting is thirsty work; it’s crucial that everyone involved stay hydrated. The following fine beverages contributed to the success of this episode: Ed is still a functioning member of the juicing community; this week he put his death cyclone machine to the test - he added a beet. The result did not look at all unlike blood. Ed seemed oddly proud of this fact. John grabbed a bottle of Limeade; living this close to water and boats, one can never be too careful about scurvy... Special guest Kemble Walters, of the outrageously face-ripping band Aeges, was filling up on the universal beverage, water. Apparently, the prior night's activities got out ahead of him, necessitating vigilant hydration. This week’s beverage intro song clip, performed (mostly) live in-studio was Every Which Way but Loose by Eddie Rabbitt.
