Episode 195 - The Gibson Flying V

The year was 1958, and American guitar manufacturers were busy having knife fights in the alleys, and trying to one-up each other. Into this melee of innovation came Gibson’s Modernistic series of instruments. Perhaps the most daring of these was the Flying V, with its arrow shaped, rocket-inspired design. It was a massive hit. By that we mean it flopped, and was discontinued after only a year. Although ubiquitous today among musicians everywhere, early examples are so few in number that it has become one of the most expensive vintage guitars money can buy - if you can find one.

Beverages!

Podcasting is thirsty work; it’s crucial that everyone involved stay hydrated. The following fine beverages contributed to the success of this episode: Ed downed a Sofresco detox shot, and reports that it tasted like there was a war in his mouth. Meanwhile, John returned to Calypso strawberry lemonade, although it remains a mystery how something so refreshingly tropical is made in Milwaukee, WI This week’s beverage intro song clip, performed (mostly) live in-studio was Day After Day by Badfinger.
